Information For New Curlers

Have You Always Wanted to Learn How To Curl???

Don't Know Where To Start???

Then You've Come To The Right Place!

Every four years you watch Olympic curling on TV; Fascinated by what you see...looks so cool...wondering how you can try that for yourself...

Well: we have opportunities for you to do just that!

Learn to Curl Events:

Prior to the start of the season, the club hosts four Learn to Curl events.  These are designed to teach people about curling who have never been on curling ice before.   The best part is: these events are free of charge.

What you will learn:

  • Learn to slide and deliver a rock down the ice

  • Learn to sweep

  • General strategy

For the upcoming season, these events will be held on the following Monday nights starting at 7:00pm:

November 30 2026

December 7 2026

December 21 2026

December 28 2026

You don't need to have any fancy equipment.  We will provide everything you need.  What we do ask you to bring:

  • Clean rubber-soled shoes (athletic shoes) that you will carry into the club.  Curling ice needs to be clean and we don't want to track any outside debris into the curling arena.  Guests who don't carry clean shoes into the club to wear will not be permitted onto the ice.
  • Dress appropriately for 2 hours of physical activity in 28 degree temperatures. Everyone has a different tolerance for cold, so wear layers of warm, loose fitting clothing that you can remove if you get too warm.  Gloves/mittens and hats are also recommended.
  • Wear pants that provide flexibility such as atheltic pants.  Jeans and tight fitting pants can be uncomfortable when delivering a stone...so wear something appropriate for physical activity.

Get hooked on curling during a Learn to Curl event?  Then join our Beginner League.

Beginner League:

New for 2027!  Our Beginner League is designed for curlers with less than 5 years of experience.  It combines league play with extensive instruction and coaching to integrate new players into the great game of curling.

Our Beginner League will be held on Monday nights starting in January.  New players will be required to attend at least one Learn to Curl session prior to joining the Beginner League.  The league will start on January 4 2027 and will run for 12 weeks.

Cost for a first year curler: $150.  This is half off our full club membership fee, and includes membership in USA Curling and the Great Lakes Curling Association.   The league will have a playdown on Monday April 5 2027 to determine the league champion: the champions will also be awarded a spot in the Glen Alsobrooks Memorial Cup playdowns to be held on Saturday April 10 2027 and a chance to win the club championship.
